Adding a Problem Set to Your Class¶
In this section, you'll learn how to add a problem set to your class and configure important settings like release dates, due dates, and grading formulas. These steps ensure your assignments are presented to students at the right time and graded according to your preferences.
Add to Your Class¶
-
Navigate to the "Course" tab From the problem set editor page, click the tab at the top of the screen labeled "Course".
-
Select your course On the new page, use the field labeled "Select a course" to search for and select your course from the dropdown menu.
-
Add the problem set to your course Once you've selected your course, press the "Add to Course" button. The page will update, revealing several new fields to configure your assignment.
-
Set important dates
-
Release Date: This optional field allows you to specify when students can begin submitting their work.
-
Due Date: This required field is the deadline for when you expect students to complete the assignment. Students can still submit work after this date, but any late submissions may be penalized based on your grading formula.
-
Submission End Date: This optional field sets the final date by which students can make submissions. After this date, no further submissions will be accepted.

Customize the grading formula
The Grade Formula field allows you to define how you want to grade the assignment. By default, the system uses a formula that averages the highest scores for each problem from submissions made before the deadline. You can also write custom code to implement your own grading system. See the tutorial below for more details on writing custom grading formulas.
Arrange the Course Schedule¶
At the bottom of the page, you'll find the course schedule. Here, you can organize how the assignments are presented to your students. By default, assignments are shown in order of their due dates. However, you can change the order using the Menu button on the far right of each row.
Preview as a Student¶
To experience your problem set from a student's perspective, you can test drive it yourself. At the bottom of the screen in the course schedule section, click the student icon in one of the problem set rows to preview the assignment as a student. This allows you to make test submissions and ensure everything works as expected before releasing it to your class.
